Visas for New Zealand

If you are a French national, obtaining an electronic visa (NZ eTA) is mandatory to stay or transit in New Zealand.

Since October 1, 2019, nationals of the 60 countries below, exempt from entry visa for New Zealand, must obtain this electronic travel authorization (eTA):

Germany, Andorra, Saudi Arabia, Argentina, Austria, Bahrain, Belgium, Brazil, Brunei, Bulgaria, Canada, Chile, South Korea, Croatia, Cyprus, Denmark, United Arab Emirates, Spain, Estonia, United States, Finland, FRANCE, Greece, Hong Kong (residents with Hong Kong SAR or British national overseas passport), Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Kuwait, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Macau, Malaysia, Malta , Mauritius, Mexico, Monaco, Norway, Oman, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Qatar, Czech Republic, Romania, United Kingdom, San Marino, Seychelles, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Uruguay and Vatican.

 New Zealand or Australian passport holders and travelers with a valid New Zealand Visa do not need to obtain an NZ eTA.

With your Visa or eTA as well as your passport, you can stay in New Zealand but New Zealand immigration is the only decision maker to authorize you to enter the country.

Most international visitors, including French, arriving in New Zealand must pay a tax called the “International Visitor Conservation and Tourism Levy” or “IVL”. The amount of this tourist tax amounts to 35NZ$ (approximately €20.00). This ext tax is included in the consular fees of your NZ ETA.

Are exempt from IVL tax:

          New Zealand passport holders,

          Australian passport holders,

          Pacific Island passport holders,

          Passengers in transit at Auckland Airport,

          New Zealand resident visa holders,

          Business Visa or APEC travel card holders.

Your NZ eTA and IVL tax fees are valid for 2 years or until the passport expires. The NZ eTA is granted for multiple entries, up to 90 days on site, during its validity.
