General information

To travel to Burundi a visa is usually required with a few exceptions.

Nationals of the following countries are exempt from visas for stays of less than 90 days: Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda.

Do you need a Visa for Burundi?

Obtaining a visa before departure is required to travel to Burundi.

Prior to any trip (to or from Burundi), you must complete the entry and exit forms from the territory on the Burundian authorities website. It is strongly recommended to have with you a paper edition of the certificate which is generated and sent by email at the end of each validation.

The Burundian authorities now grant entry authorizations upon arrival on Burundian territory. It is necessary to apply for an entry visa (single entry). It will be delivered at the airport, upon payment of the sum of 90 USD.

Conditions of entry in Burundi

In order to enter Burundi, the traveller will need to carry his passport with an eVisa (pre authorized), USD90 as well as a return air ticket.

It should be noted that, even if the traveller is in possession of all the documents requested to validate his entry into Burundi, the Burundian authorities reserve the right to refuse access to their territory without having to justify it.

Understanding the Visa for Burundi

The visa is valid for 30 days from the date of entry.

Documents to be provided: eVisa Business and Tourism (Visa on arrival)

  • A scan of the passport double data page (original passport, signed and valid for at least 6 months) pdf, jpeg or jpg <200ko
  • A scan of an “identity”-sized photo from the front (colour, recent with specific format <200ko)
  • A copy of the residence card for non european people as well as a proof of residence for non-French people

On arrival in Burundi:

You will need to present your passport and the validated eVisa form before your departure and finally pay the sum of USD90.

Thus, your single entry Visa (maximum duration 30 days) will be granted to you.
