General information

To travel to Afghanistan a visa is required.

For visa applications, it is imperative that the applicant applies in person at the Consular Section of the embassy to submit their file.

The Consular Section of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in France issues visas to people residing and applying in France, Portugal, Monaco, Andorra and Cyprus. Due to regulatory constraints, only single entry visas valid for a stay of one month can be issued, with the exception of Business visas (can be issued up to a maximum period of 3 years with multiple entries). Those wishing to stay longer in Afghanistan can apply to extend their visa at the consulate at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kabul.

Do you need a Visa for Afghanistan?

Obtaining a Visa before departure is mandatory to travel to Afghanistan.

Please note that no visa is issued upon arrival in the country. Therefore, the traveler must make their request to the Afghan embassy in Paris.

However, the Visa may be refused in the following cases:

– When the period of prohibition of residence of persons has not come to an end

– When the requesting individual is suspected of disrupting order and security, moral corruption or lack of respect for the morals and customs of Afghanistan

– In exceptional cases, where the consular and diplomatic authorities of the IR of Afghanistan issue an unfavorable opinion on the issuance of a visa to a certain person (for valid reasons)

– When there is a risk of spreading a disease considered contagious

– When the competent authorities have refused to grant the Visa in the past

It should be noted that no visa is issued on arrival in the country. Therefore, the traveler must imperatively apply to the Afghan Embassy in Paris.

Conditions of entry in Afghanistan

To be able to enter Afghan territory, the traveler must bring his passport with visa as well as a return plane ticket.

It should be noted that, even if the traveler is in possession of all the documents requested to validate his entry into Afghanistan, the Afghan authorities reserve the right to refuse access to their territory without having to justify it.

Understanding the Visa for Afghanistan

The visa is valid from 30 days to 2 years following the request from the date of entry indicated on the form.

Documents to be provided : Visa Business, Tourism, ...

  • An original passport, signed and valid for at least 6 months and with at least two blank pages
  • A photocopy of the passport data page
  • A duly completed and signed form
  • Two standard passport size photos, affixed in the appropriate box on the application form (all photos provided must be identical, recent, in color on a white background, centered on the face and showing both ears)
  • A mission order/letter for official or business visa applications verifying the purpose of travel and including an authorization reference number granted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan
  • A copy of the applicant’s residence permit / identity card in France and proof of address attesting to your current address in France, Portugal, Monaco, Andorra and Cyprus (public service invoices, municipal documents, etc.)
  • For tourist visas, additional documents are required (letter of invitation from a sponsor/tour operator, confirmed flight and accommodation reservations, travel insurance, bank statement with sufficient funds to cover travel and accommodation costs in Afghanistan)

 

  • If you are visiting relatives or friends, please prepare a letter justifying the trip and the people you plan to visit or that of an official entity duly registered in Afghanistan; or include a letter from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kabul authorizing the visit.
