General information

To travel to Malaysia a visa is generally not necessary for stays of less than 3 months with a few exceptions.

For certain nationalities, regardless of the length of your stay and the type of your stay, you will need to apply for a Visa or, if your nationality is eligible, an eVisa.

Travelers leaving for Malaysia must, since December 1st, 2023, comply with a new formality before their stay.

Like Sri Lanka, the Sultanate of Brunei or even Cambodia, foreign visitors are now required to complete a digital arrival card (Malaysia Digital Arrival Card or MDAC) 3 days before their departure for Malaysia. You will need to print this card and present it upon your arrival in Malaysia.

Do you need a Visa for Malaysia?

A trip to Malaysia does not require you to apply for a Visa for a stay of less than 90 days, whether for Business or Tourism, particularly if you are of French nationality.

If your stay is longer than 90 days and for any nationality, then you will need to request a Visa affixed in the passport or, for certain nationalities, an eVisa is also possible:

Afghanistan (VDR), Angola, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Central African Republic, China, Colombia, Congo Democratic Republic, Republic of Congo, Djibouti, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Ghana, Guinea-Bissau, Hong Kong (CI/DI), India, Ivory Coast, Kosovo, Liberia, Mali, Montenegro, Mozambique, Myanmar, Nepal, Nigeria, Niger, Pakistan, Rwanda, Serbia, Sri Lanka.

Conditions of entry in Malaysia

To be able to enter the territory of Malaysia, the traveler must bring their valid passport/travel document, print their valid Visa/eVisa, boarding pass, proof of sufficient funds (cash / traveler’s check / debit cards or credit/e-wallets recognized by the Malaysian government) to cover your expenses during your stay in Malaysia, confirmed return flight ticket and your proof of accommodation.

It should be noted that, even if the traveler is in possession of all the documents requested to validate his entry into Malaysia, the Indian authorities reserve the right to refuse access to their territory without having to justify it.

Understanding the Visa for Malaysia

The eVisa is valid for 3 months for a stay of maximum 30 days on site.

      • A scan of a recent (less than 6 months) color ID photo, on a white background, perfectly framed (face in the middle)
      • A scan of the double biographical data page of the passport, with passport validity greater than six (6) months from the date of travel to Malaysia
      • Detailed home address (in France or EU)
      • Scan of your 3 last bank statements
      • Scan of your (confirmed) reservation for the return flight
      • Scan your proof of accommodation in Malaysia
      • Scan of birth certificate for minor travelers

When you prepare your trip to Malaysia, remember to carefully check whether the eVisa or Visa authorizations that may concern you are still current, both in relation to your nationality and in relation to the purpose of your trip.

Additionally, your application is subject to approval by the High Commission/Embassy/Consulate General of Malaysia abroad. In case of suspicion, candidates may be required to provide additional documents or be summoned for an interview or online video conference with the High Commission/Embassy/Consulate General of Malaysia: be demanding on the quality and the conformity of the documents submitted!
